Rajasthan Royals defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru by a margin of four wickets to earn a spot in the Indian Premier League’s Qualifier 2.

With six balls remaining, the West Indies T20 captain Rovman Powell struck a straight six over far on to seal the victory for his team, the Royals, who had reached their 173 mark.

To earn a spot against Kolkata Knight Riders in Sunday’s championship game, they will now play Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday.

Earlier, Ravichandran Ashwin took 2-19 and Rajat Patidar top-scored with 34 off 22 deliveries as RCB was limited to 172-8 from their 20 overs.

Despite adding 33, former captain Virat Kohli and three-time runner-up RCB’s hunt for an IPL championship was prolonged by the loss.

The Royals responded with a powerful first-ball performance from opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who struck a brisk 45 from 30 balls, including eight fours.

Then, with the Royals trailing 86-3, Jaiswal was caught behind by Australia’s Cameron Green, and captain Sanju Samson was dismissed for 17 in the span of five balls by Karn Sharma.

However, Shimron Hetmyer smashed 26 from 14 balls and Riyan Parag hammered 36 from 26 balls to put the Royals in danger before Powell, who finished undefeated at 16, got them over the finish line.

Jos Buttler was not with the Royals since he had joined the England team for their Twenty20 series against Pakistan, even though the opening Twenty20 at Headingley on Wednesday was rained off.

With an impressive eight-wicket victory against Sunrisers in Qualifier 1, Kolkata Knight Riders advanced to their fourth IPL final on Tuesday.
